Sophrology
The diagnosis of cancer, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy involve many difficult steps that are sometimes more overwhelming than the disease itself.
To help patients better understand what they are going through, as well as the changes in their body and the undesirable side effects, some relaxation techniques exist. Sophrology provides important emotional support and is a mix of physical and mental exercises that should be practiced regularly for a healthier and more relaxed body.
Throughout these relaxation sessions, which include muscle relaxation, breathing, and visualization techniques, patients can divert their attention from negative thoughts, such as pain, anxiety, fear, insomnia, and instead focus on positive thoughts to help manage and overcome their pain.
There are no drawbacks to this technique, and if it can bring you some relief and well-being, don’t hesitate to book your sessions.
Zumba
Surviving cancer and making it through treatment are major accomplishments. Most, if not all, survivors find a new priority in life — keeping cancer from returning. The latest research suggests that exercise for cancer patients can be beneficial.
There are many reasons to be physically active during and after cancer treatment, but each person’s exercise program should be based on what’s safe and what works best for them. It should also be something you enjoy doing. Your exercise plan should consider any current exercise programs, what you can do now, and any physical limitations.
Link to Life offers Zumba sessions tailored for cancer patients. These sessions also provide a chance to connect with others going through similar experiences.
Evidence shows that exercise offers many benefits, from reducing fatigue and improving wellness and physical fitness, to boosting confidence during and after cancer treatment.
Tai Chi
Each year, Link to Life strives to innovate with its activities. In 2020, with the help and support of Mr. Bhurtun, Link to Life introduced Tai Chi sessions. Tai Chi is an exercise combining slow, graceful movements. It is an art that embraces the mind, body, and spirit. Tai Chi is a promising tool to increase light physical activity levels with meditative benefits for cancer survivors, improving survival outcomes.
Each session is a shared experience for both the instructor and participants, and it’s also a learning process from these incredible “fighters.” Their dedication and fighting spirit to stay fit have deeply impacted me, reminding me of how precious health is. During training, I do my best to bring some happiness, and we often share a laugh and a joke, stated Mr. Bhurtun.
Meditation
Meditation is extremely valuable for cancer patients. From the moment they are diagnosed until the end of treatments, the body loses its calmness and accumulates grief, anxiety, and depression.
Life can be stressful when coping with illness. At Link to Life, our beneficiaries are offered moments of meditation, where they learn to listen to their bodies, feel their heartbeat, and be one with themselves. Meditation often helps patients accept their situation and rebuild the confidence they may have lost. It not only lowers blood pressure but also eases anxiety, depression, and insomnia in cancer patients.
Craft Work
Craft work is one of the newest activities at Link to Life. Under the guidance of an instructor, our ladies use different colors of wool as their primary material to knit and design various items. This activity helps unlock the creative potential of the beneficiaries and develop their artistic skills.
Yoga Sessions
Weekly yoga sessions are held at Link to Life for our beneficiaries. Yoga is beneficial for cancer patients as it helps reduce anxiety, fatigue, and improves the quality of sleep.
